5. Ian Wright’s Equal Opportunity Speech

Before we go onto matters on the pitch, there was one great moment off the pitch that was worth mentioning in our top 5. Having beaten Sweden to reach the final of the euro’s, Ian wright made a speech about getting more young girls into football: “If girls are not allowed to play football just like the boys can in their PE after this tournament, then what are we doing?”

The FA has revealed that only 63% of schools offer girls football lessons in PE, so Ian made a great point highlighting this issue on a historic night for the England Women's team.

4. England 8-0 Norway

Norway were dubbed as the dark horses of the tournament, but unfortunately for them, they were to come up against the eventual winners of the tournament. England demolished them 8-0, which became the highest ever score line in a Euro’s game. This was a double blow as it prevented Norway from reaching the knock-out phases of the tournament.

3. Alessia Russo’s Back Heel

This was one of the goals of the tournament but it had greater significance. Sweden were the highest ranked team in Europe at the time, and not only did England convincingly win 4-0, they did it in style!

This goal said alot about the confidence of this England team as it was actually a back heel through the keeper's legs! Not only that, but this was the semi-final of the Euro’s. England meant business and went into the Euro 2022 final full of confidence, and the classy goals didn’t stop at the semi finals either.

2. Ella Toone’s Stunning Chip

There was no competition for this one! Chloe Kelly’s first international goal secured England’s first silverware since the 1966 world cup, just minutes before a penalty shoot out beckoned.

Not only was this the goal to win the Euro’s, but Kelly’s celebration was an iconic one that mirrored Brandi Chastain’s celebration having just won the 1999 World Cup, a celebration which is claimed to have changed the landscape of women’s football.
